Sustainable Living

The Green Transformation And Shift Is Happening.

green transformation

As we move and progress from the year 2011 to 2012 there will be many shifts happening across our planet. Some of the areas the impact will be the greatest will be in technology, business operations, online social media & blogging, health & wellness, spirituality and sustainability. Each area will shift and evolve to become more efficient and effective.

The shift in sustainability which I like to refer to as “the green transformation” will have an extremely positive impact on our planet. For those of us who neglect or forget to take part in the green transformation may get left behind in the dust because new green mind-sets will continue to attract other green mind-sets.

Sustainable consciousness or green consciousness is being embraced by increasing numbers of people across our planet and they are infusing it into everything they do whether it is personal or business.

More and more of us want to make a positive impact on the planet, reduce our carbon footprint and preserve our energy resources and eco-systems for future generations.

If you would like to take part in this green shift and transformation here are 18 things you can do both from a business and personal perspective.

Business

1. Switch your website or blogging hosting to a green hosting company – let people know that you have gone green in the cyber-world.

2. Print all your marketing materials such as business cards, post cards and fliers on post-consumer recycled paper. Include the appropriate symbol so people know you are using green materials.

3. Purchase your business products made from recycled material. Also, make sure that you are able to recycle them again.

4. If you need to conduct a business meeting consider having it from home, via a conference call or an online web conference. Save time, energy and travel expenses.

5. Unplug your computer and other office devices when you are fished using them for the day. Most electronics will continue to use energy when they are in “standby” mode.

6. Incur green business expenses for products or services used. Buy green office supplies and equipment. Have them serviced by someone who adopts green and sustainable practices. Continue reading

Living Green In Hawaii – Adventures in a Hawaiian Hippy Town.

island hippies

One of the most amazing things about living in Hawaii is that there is a farmer’s market every day of the week. Well that seems to be the case here on the island of Kauai. It makes green living very easy and it is one of the reasons why I choose to spend part of my winter here.

If you are interested in traveling and visiting a place where you can be healthy and sustainable then I suggest that you carefully research your destination to see that they have health food stores, farmers markets and eco-friendly services.

Several years ago, when I lived in the beautiful Cayman Islands I was deprived of fresh, local exotic fruit and vegetables with the exception of a few coconuts and mangoes. Everything was imported to the island (usually from the US mainland) and there was no concern for sustainability.

So I want to give you a few tips on how to be healthy and sustainable when choosing your travel destination. But first I would like to share with you some information on Kauai and why it is so healthy, green and beautiful here.

The island of Kauai, which is one of the smallest islands in the chain of the Hawaiian Islands, is abundant with orchids, farms and botanical gardens.

The island of Kauai makes it easy to eat healthy and live sustainably with its numerous markets and fresh local fruit stands scattered across the island. Smoothy stands are also abundant everywhere.

Kauai also has numerous small local health food stores where you can buy both local and imported organic foods to suit your healthy eating habits.

Kauai has numerous recycling depots, communities & organizations for sustainable living, as well as maps and publications for green living. Continue reading
